Wilson Evo Editions “Monstera” Basketball

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for a new Evo Editions basketball drop by Wilson Sporting Goods.

These are limited edition basketballs with different designs in the “Wilson” and “Evolution” script written on the ball, so the photography is meant to show off these designs. For this particular design, “Monstera,” I wanted to place the ball in an environment that matched the pattern and colors on the ball in order to make the viewer feel as if the design on the ball almost extended itself into the balls’ environment.

The environment for the basketball is also so unusual, it causes the viewer to stop and wonder “why is there a basketball in a rainforest?” and therefore calls direct attention to the new design.

The photography was used to create a 360 marketing launch campaign with point of purchase assets for the product page and feed page of the Wilson Live App (see second row of assets below), as well promotional assets for paid and organic social and an email blast.

Wilson Evo Editions ”PyroPop” Basketball

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for a new Evo Editions basketball drop by Wilson Sporting Goods.

These are limited edition basketballs with different designs in the “Wilson” and “Evolution” script written on the ball, so the photography is meant to show off these designs. For this particular design, “PyroPop,” I noticed that the ball closely resembled a Firecracker Ice Pop that took me back to a summer’s day at an ice cream shop. Since the ball was dropping at the very beginning of Summer, we decided to shoot at an old school ice cream parlor that had a similar color scheme to the ball’s design.

My approach to photography, especially in brand shoots for particular products, is that the product should ADD to the story, not BE the story. While using models, the viewer should be able to visualize themselves in a similar scene and therefore form an emotional connection to the scene and the product, ultimately driving purchases. This is exactly how I approached this shoot for PyroPop, telling the story of two girls who just finished a game of basketball in the summer, rewarding themselves with ice cream before returning home with their equipment.

The photography was used to create a 360 marketing launch campaign with point of purchase assets for the product page and feed page of the Wilson Live App (see first row of assets below), as well promotional assets for paid and organic social, an email blast, and brand website assets to drive customers to the app (see second row below).

Wilson Evo Edition Basketballs Drops 001-003

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for three new Evo Editions basketball drop by Wilson Sporting Goods. These are limited edition basketballs with different designs in the “Wilson” and “Evolution” script written on the ball, so the photography is meant to show off these designs.

For these particular designs, I wanted the target customer, a “hooper,” who buys into basketball and street culture, to see these photos and visualize themselves using this ball in their own environment. As these were the first three ever drops of “Evo Editions,” my goal was to demonstrate that this ball (and future drops/designs) can be an extension of the hooper’s streetwear and fashion, an accessory to add to their expression of identity.

This photography was used to create a 360 marketing campaign including place of purchase in app assets for the Wilson Live App including feed and product page (see the first row below), as well as eblasts (see the second row) and paid and organic social posts (see third row).

Wilson Omega Football

Launch

Videography and lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for the new Omega Football, which had a groundbreaking new technology called RevTech. The imagery was shot in the factory these balls are produced, and was meant to showcase innovation and technology, as well as illicit feelings of grittiness and hardwork.

The following product testimonial and instructional videos were all directed, shot, and produced by Pete Donahoe. These were both shot in a conference room made to look like a production studio.

These images and videos were utilized by Wilson in the launch campaign for the Omega Football and included as Place of Purchase ePDP assets on the product page on Wilson.com as well as cross promotional site merchandising assets on product listing pages and the Wilson blog. Select images were further published in Forbes and SportsTechie articles.

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for a new line of Wilson basketballs. This line took the standard black and orange Evo NXT and introduced 7 new color ways, so the photography was specifically meant to show the breadth of new color options.

These assets were used as part of a multi faceted digital launch, including brand website home page banners, email, paid and organic social, and ePDP assets on the wilson.com product page.
