Wilson Evo Editions “Monstera” Basketball

These are limited edition basketballs with different designs in the “Wilson” and “Evolution” script written on the ball, so the photography is meant to show off these designs. For this particular design, “Monstera,” I wanted to place the ball in an environment that matched the pattern and colors on the ball in order to make the viewer feel as if the design on the ball almost extended itself into the balls’ environment.

The environment for the basketball is also so unusual, it causes the viewer to stop and wonder “why is there a basketball in a rainforest?” and therefore calls direct attention to the new design.

Wilson Evo Editions “PyroPop” Basketball

These are limited edition basketballs with different designs in the “Wilson” and “Evolution” script written on the ball, so the photography is meant to show off these designs. For this particular design, “PyroPop,” I noticed that the ball closely resembled a Firecracker Ice Pop that took me back to a summer’s day at an ice cream shop. Since the ball was dropping at the very beginning of Summer, we decided to shoot at an old school ice cream parlor that had a similar color scheme to the ball’s design.

My approach to photography, especially in brand shoots for particular products, is that the product should ADD to the story, not BE the story. While using models, the viewer should be able to visualize themselves in a similar scene and therefore form an emotional connection to the scene and the product, ultimately driving purchases. This is exactly how I approached this shoot for PyroPop, telling the story of two girls who just finished a game of basketball in the summer, rewarding themselves with ice cream before returning home with their equipment.

Wilson NCAA Evo NXT Basketball Colors

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for a new line of Wilson basketballs. This line took the standard black and orange Evo NXT and introduced 7 new color ways, so the photography was specifically meant to show the breadth of new color options.

These assets were used as part of a multi faceted digital launch, including brand website banners, and paid social advertisements.

Wilson Evo Editions Basketball Drop 001

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe for a new Evo Editions basketball drop by Wilson Sporting Goods. These are limited edition basketballs with different designs in the “Wilson” and “Evolution” script written on the ball, so the photography is meant to show off these designs.

For this particular design, “Drop 001,” I saw the black and white design and thought of a classic blacktop urban street basketball court. I wanted the target customer, a “hooper,” who buys into basketball and street culture, to see these photos and visualize themselves using this ball in their own environment. As this was the first ever drop of “Evo Editions,” my goal was to demonstrate that this ball (and future drops/designs) can be an extension of the hooper’s streetwear and fashion, an accessory to add to their expression of identity. To tell this story, I shot on a Chicago city court on a gloomy day, and used a desaturated look to emphasize the black and white design.

On top of this, I was given no budget, and no talent to help bring this to life, so I was also the model in this shoot.

For this particular design, “Drop 002,” I wanted to show off the colorful and artistic designs while also continuing to speak to the “hooper” who values street culture and fashion. I therefore shot the ball with different backgrounds of street art with similar color palettes - murals and painted basketball courts in the city of Chicago, to bring the two worlds of art and basketball together, and further the narrative that the new Evo Editions can be an accessory to the hoopers’ fashion and an extension of their self expression.

For this particular design, “Drop 003” I again wanted to show off the colorful and artistic designs, which were based off house music, while also continuing to speak to the “hooper” who values street culture and fashion. I therefore shot at a city skateboard park to continue the urban feel of the campaigns and used concert flyers with the same design on them as props to help tell the story of the design and the culture it is connected with. The photography was again meant to further the narrative that the new Evo Editions can be an accessory to the hoopers’ fashion and an extension of their self expression.

Wilson Omega Football & Metallic Duke Football Launch

This imagery was all shot in the factory these balls are produced, and was meant to showcase innovation and technology, as well as illicit feelings of grittiness and hardwork.

NBA All Star x Wilson Family Reunion

Lifestyle product photography shot and edited by Pete Donahoe to market Wilson’s NBA All Star activation in 2022. This “Family Reunion” activation was meant to draw on the idea that the basketball community is a family, and that basketball is the center piece that brings the family together.

The photography, shot in Ikea, was shot with warm tones and a Thanksgiving like feel to help illicit sentiment of family and togetherness, with the new Wilson NBA All Star basketball at the center.

These images were used in a comprehensive marketing campaign to draw attention to the Wilson Family Reunion Activation at NBA All Star, including print at the event itself, brand website assets, email marketing, blog, and paid/organic social.
